About Dicloxacillin
Dicloxacillin is a penicillin antibiotic that fights bacteria in your body. It is used to treat many different sorts of infections caused by microbes such as bronchitis, pneumonia, or staphylococcal (too called "staph") infections. It may too be used for purposes not listed in the medicine guide. It makes birth control pills less effective. It can also pass to breast milk and affect a nursing baby. It doesn’t work for viral infection like Common cold or flu. Dicloxacillin is insensitive to beta-lactamase enzymes emitted by numerous penicillin-resistant microscopic organisms. The presence of isoxazolyl group on the side chain of penicillin nucleus encourages β-lactamase resistance, since they are generally intolerant of side-chain steric obstacle. Hence, it is able to bind to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) & inhibit peptidoglycan crosslinking, but isn't bound by or inactivated by β-lactamase.
