About Piano
Piano is a keyboard instrument that produces sound when the hammers hit the strings after depressing the key. The most modern of these have 88 keys arranged chromatically. There are two types: the grand piano, which aims at beautiful sound and nuanced command over the brush, or the more compact upright, which is also less expensive. When someone presses a key, a mechanism activates that causes a felt-covered hammer to strike specific strings, and their vibrations are amplified by a soundboard. There are also pedals, which provide for sustain and dampening control. The piano range and dynamic possibilities have made it into a base instrument across myriad styles-from classical to contemporary, with solo, group, and accompaniment to composition and instruction in music.
