What is Gas Atomized Powder Market?
Atomization is accomplished by pushing a molten metal stream through an opening at moderate pressures. Immediately before leaving the nozzle, a gas is introduced into the metal stream, which creates turbulence when the entrained gas expands (due to heating) and exits into a large collection volume outside the opening. The collection volume is filled with gas to promote further turbulence in the molten metal jet. Air and powder flows are separated by gravity or cyclone separation. Most atomized powders are annealed, reducing the oxide and carbon content. The gas atomization is a process for producing high-quality metal powders. During the gas atomization process, the molten steel is atomized into fine metal droplets thanks to inert gas jets, which cool down as they fall into the atomization tower. Gas atomization offers the advantages of a low-oxygen, high-spherical powder. The throughput potential of a single melt stream is less than that of atomizing water, typically from 10 to 50 kg/min, but the applications are generally more demanding or more specialized. Metal powder production by gas atomization has been studied in detail in recent years. The driving force behind this effort was the development of rapidly solidified light alloys made from powders for applications in the aerospace industry. Understanding of the atomization process has improved, the influence of processing parameters and nozzle design has been clarified, and several innovative technologies have been developed.
