A linear resonant actuator is a motor that generates oscillating force along a single axis. A voice coil placed against a moving mass coupled to spring is driven by AC power in a linear resonant actuator. The actuator vibrates with an observable force when the voice coil is operated at the resonance frequency of the spring. Although the AC input can change the frequency and amplitude of a linear resonant actuator, the actuator must be driven at its resonant frequency to generate a significant amount of force for a big current. As a result, it's a crucial part of haptics technology.
