(VRLA) battery, short for Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid Battery is also known as sealed or maintenance-free batteries. VRLA batteries are considered "maintenance free" because they require no addition of electrolyte or water. The design is such that electrolyte is captive, preventing it from spilling even when the case is punctured.
