About Propylene Oxide
Propylene oxide is an organic, volatile, flammable, colorless liquid compound which soluble in both ether and alcohol. It is mainly used as an intermediate chemical in the manufacture of adhesives, coatings, flexible foams, rigid foams, injection moldings, and elastomers. It is also used as a chemical for adhesives, grouts, paints, waterproofing, and materials. It is used majorly in the manufacture of propylene glycol and polyether polyols. Growing demand for propylene oxide from major end-use industries and high growth in building & the construction industry in India, China, Brazil, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and others countries in the previous few years are some of the major drivers which are propelling the growth of the market.

Market Leaders and their expansionary development strategies
In 2014, the Dow Chemical Company (United States) has started operations at SCG-Dow Group (Thailand), a joint venture between Dow Chemical Company (United States) and Siam Cement Group (Thailand) for its new Propylene Oxide (PO) facility. It will help in strengthening the position of the company and In October 2014, the SABIC (Saudi Arabia) Company and Royal Dutch Shell plc, (Netherlands) had planned to expand SADAF. This expansion was to have added production of propylene oxide, polyols, and styrene monomer. This expansion had helped the company to expand its product portfolio of the company.
In March 2023, LyondellBasell announced that it has successfully started up the world's largest propylene oxide (PO) and tertiary butanol (TBA) plant in Texas. The new units, located on the US Gulf Coast, can produce 470,000 tons of PO and 1 million tons of TBA and its derivatives per year.
In January 2019, the Tamil Nadu Petro-products Limited (India) Company has announced Under Regulation 30 and Updates the Commencement of Commercial Production of Propylene Oxide.
