About LED Testing Equipment
LEDs must be tested during production and in their final application for consistent performance throughout their life. Comprehensive optical characterization is also one of the essential parts of the research and development of LEDs and related products. This helps ensure compliance with safety and performance standards. The simplest device for testing an LED is the multimeter. If a multimeter in its diode setting shows an approximate voltage of 1600 mV when connecting leads to the cathode and anode of the LED, this indicates that the LED is of good quality. During the LED test, some basic parameters need to be measured, e.g. the luminous flux, the luminous intensity, the spectrum, the color, and the spatial radiation pattern of LEDs. Measuring different parameters helps to measure and define different properties. In order to test the longevity of LED hardware, certain tests must be carried out. This includes fatigue tests, assembly tests, dielectric strength tests, function tests, endurance tests, and EMC tests. Some instruments used to measure the lighting characteristics of LEDs are the PCE-VDL 16I, the Topcon Illuminance Spectrometer, the ProMetric I-Series, and the Chroma Meter CL-200A. Designers as well as manufacturers are at present being pushed towards improving the user experience. Test and measurement instruments for the development and manufacture of LEDs have to keep pace with the latest technologies.
