Gallic Acid refers to a phenolic compound which is also known as 3,4,5- trihydroxy benzoic acid. It can be found in a free state and also as a constituent of tannins. Gallic acid is present in plant parts like leaf, fruit, root, bark, and seed. It is also used as a synthetic intermediate in the manufacturing of pyrogallols. In the food and beverage industry, gallic acid is widely used. Gallic acid is used as an additive in the food industry to make the preservative propyl gallate. Gallic acid is also used in a variety of commercial applications. In the pharmaceutical industry, it's used to make trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP), trimethoprim synthesis, and other sulfonamides.
