Humectants include glycerin, sorbitol, propylene glycol, hexylene and butylene glycol, MP Diol, urea, alpha hydroxy acids and other sugars. As they retain moisture they are important ingredients of skincare and hair care products. It contains several hydrophilic groups, such as hydroxyl group, amines and carboxyl groups, and ester. Humectants are also used as an antistatic coatings for plastics. In pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, humectants are used in topical dosage forms to upsurge the solubility of a chemical compound.
