About Underwater Modems
The underwater modem is a device used for underwater communication for sending and receiving messages. It uses acoustic waves instead of electromagnetic waves. It converts digital data into special underwater sound signals and these signals are then received by another modem that convert it back into digital data. The underwater communication is slow compared to radio communications. There are complications with transmission from signal absorption, geometric spreading losses, boundary effects etc. It can be used for underwater telemetry, ROV and AUV command and control, driver communications, underwater monitoring and data logging.
