Alkylation Catalyst Market Scope
Alkylation, in petroleum refining, a chemical process in which light, gaseous hydrocarbons are combined to produce high-octane components of gasoline. The light hydrocarbons comprise of olefins such as butylene and propylene and isoparaffins such as isobutane. These compounds are fed into a reactor, where, under the influence of a hydrofluoric-acid or sulfuric-acid catalyst, they combine to form a mixture of heavier hydrocarbons. The liquid fraction of this mixture, known as alkylate, consists mainly of isooctane, a compound that lends excellent antiknock characteristics to gasoline.
According to AMA, the Global Alkylation Catalyst market is expected to see growth rate of 7.02%Alkylation Catalyst market is a fragmented market due to the presence of various players. The players are focusing on increasing their manufacturing capacity, developing innovative and new product to improve quality. The companies are coming up with partnerships or agreements along with planning strategic activities such as partnerships, product launch, mergers, and acquisitions which will help them to sustain in the market and maintain their competitive edge.

In January 2023, Albemarle Corporation launched official brand launch of Ketjen. Tailored, advanced catalyst solutions for the petrochemical, refining and specialty chemicals industries. This launch helped company to expand its presence in Alkylation Catalyst market
On 23 Jan 2019, KBR, Inc. announced that it has entered into a contract with Wynnewood Refining Company, LLC for engineering and design services relating to KBR's Solid Acid Alkylation Technology (K-SAAT) for Wynnewood's refinery located in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. K-SAAT is a revolutionary technology to produce alkylate, which is an ultra-clean gasoline blendstock. Unlike traditional refinery alkylation technologies that utilize strong acids, K-SAAT produces alkylates by combining light olefins and isobutane using a solid catalyst that provides yield and operating cost benefits by avoiding complex acid handling and cooling cost.
