Capsule endoscopy is a procedure which uses a small wireless camera to take pictures of digestive tract. A capsule endoscopy camera sits inside a vitamin-size capsule which one can swallow it. Since, the capsule travels through digestive tract, the camera takes thousands of pictures which are transferred to a recorder which is one wear on a belt around the waist. Further, capsule endoscopy helps doctor to evaluate the small intestine. This part of the bowel cannot be reached by colonoscopy or by traditional upper endoscopy. The most common reason for doing capsule endoscopy is to search for a reason of bleeding from the small intestine. It may also be beneficial for detecting polyps, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease), ulcers, and tumors of the small intestine.
