Minimal Essential Medium is a synthetic cell culture media. It is a modification of Basal Medium Eagle (BME). It can be used to maintain cells in tissue culture. It is based on 6 salts and glucose described in Earle's salts which is calcium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium sulphate, sodium phosphate, sodium chloride & sodium bicarbonate, supplemented with 13 essential amino acids, & 8 vitamins; riboflavin (vitamin B2), myo-inositol (known as vitamin B8), nicotinamide (vitamin B3), thiamine (vitamin B1), pyrodoxine (vitamin B6), pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) & folic acid (vitamin B9), choline.
