Direct-fed microbial products contain live (viable) microorganisms (bacteria and/ or yeast) that improve the number of good bacteria present in the gut. For this specially selected strains of bacteria were selected for their abilities to produce high levels of beneficial enzymes including alpha-amylase, cellulase, and protease.
