About Hallux Rigidus
Hallux Rigidus means stiff big toe occurs when the joint at the base of the big toe stiffens. It is the most common arthritic condition in the foot and can make walking painful and difficult. Hallux Rigidus usually develops in adult between the ages of 30 to 60. Hallux Rigidus can be caused by either a traumatic injury or through overuse of foot. Overpronation or too much stress on the joint is one of the reason. Repetitive weight bearing in a dorsiflexed position such as when walking up mountains or driving forward in a rugby scrum or similar conditions can be a factor.
