Femtosecond Laser System Market Scope
The femtosecond laser is the main tool for ultrafast initiation of photochemical reactions. It is phase-locked to X-rays and is used for single-group Laue diffraction, stroboscopic experiments down to 1 kHz (wide-angle diffraction and scattering), and to drive a jitter-free femtosecond X-ray streak camera. The first stage is a mode-locked Kerr effect sapphire laser phase-locked to the RF/4 synchrotron and designed to generate weak 100 fs pulses near 800 nm with a repetition frequency of 88 MHz Chirp Pulse Amplifier (CPA) with a repetition rate of up to 3 kHz (extensively tested only up to 3 kHz). Increases the energy of a single pulse fs to about 1.5-2.5 mJ. Before amplification, the pulse is stretched from 100 fs to 200 ps. The stretching is necessary because the high peak power of a 1 mJ, 1 mm2, 100 fs (1 TW cm-2) pulse would cause nonlinear absorption and damage several optical elements in the amplifier, including the Sapphire crystal pocket cell. After amplification, the stretched pulse is pushed out of the amplifier and compressed again to 100 fs. The third stage uses non-linear methods to generate a variety of wavelengths. Methods include frequency doubling (400 nm), third harmonic generation (267 nm), and optical parametric generation/amplification (OPG/OPA). The OPA/OPG can generate tunable visible pulses (460-760nm) at up to 200uJ per pulse. The entire laser system is housed on a 4.25 x 1. Optical table of 5 m2.
