What is Renewable Biodiesel?
Biodiesel is a biodegradable, renewable fuel produced in the United States from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant grease. Biodiesel satisfies the Renewable Fuel Standard's requirements for both biomass-based diesel and overall advanced biofuel. Renewable fuel, also known as "eco-friendly diesel," is not the same as biodiesel. In its pure, unblended form, biodiesel is a liquid fuel known as B100, or "nicked biodiesel. Biodiesel, like petroleum diesel, fuels compression-ignition engines. The physical properties of biodiesel are shown in the table. The effectiveness of biodiesel in cold weather is determined by the purity of biodiesel, cellulosic ethanol, and petro diesel character traits. Blends with lower biodiesel percentages perform better in cold temperatures. In cold weather, regular No. 2 diesel and B5 typically perform about the same. Some compounds in both biodiesel and No. 2 diesel crystallize at very low temperatures. Fuel blenders and suppliers combat crystallization in winter weather by adding a cold flow improver. Users should work with their fuel provider to ensure the appropriate blend for cold weather performance.

Market Overview:
On 13th June 2022, with the approval of REG stockholders, Chevron Corporation completed the previously announced acquisition of Renewable Energy Group, Inc. (REG). According to Mark Nelson, executive vice president of Downstream & Chemicals at Chevron, "We have brought together companies with complementary capabilities, assets, and customer relationships to make Chevron one of the leading renewable fuel companies in the United States." Chevron now provides a wider range of affordable, low-carbon solutions that make use of its fleets and infrastructure to its customers.
The Renewable Fuels Regulations, published in the Canada Gazette, Part II on September 1, 2010, require a minimum of 5% renewable content in gasoline by December 15, 2010. In 2011, the regulations were changed to require an average of 2% renewable content in diesel fuel and heating oil. More information on the Renewable Fuels Regulations can be found here.
The global market is highly competitive and consists of a limited number of providers who compete with each other. The intense competition, changing consumer spending patterns, demographic trends, and frequent changes in consumer preferences pose significant opportunities for market growth.
