On 11th September 2020, Austal USA completes the purchase of land, floating dry dock. Austal USA reports that it has completed the purchase of waterfront land, buildings, and an existing dry dock along the Mobile River previously owned by the World Marine of Alabama, an indirect subsidiary of Modern American Recycling and Repair Services of Alabama (M.A.R.R.S.). The purchase enhances the company’s new construction and service business lines.
"According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration Standards a gangway, ramp, or permanent stairway of not less than 20 inches walking surface, of adequate strength, maintained in safe repair and securely fastened, shall be provided between a floating dry dock and the pier or bulkhead. Each side of such gangway, ramp, or permanent stairway, including those which are used for access to wing walls from dry dock floors, shall have a railing with a mid-rail. Such railings on gangways or ramps shall be approximately 42 inches in height; and railings on permanent stairways shall be not less than approximately 30 or more than approximately 34 inches in height. Rails shall be of wood, pipe, chain, wire, or rope, and shall be kept taut at all times."
