About Bleach
Bleach is the chemical product which is used industrially and domestically to clean, to lighten hair color and to remove stains. The most popular common household bleach is chlorine bleach, which is a water-based product that contains a chemical called sodium hypochlorite. They also make good cleaning agents, since they kill mold, germs, and bacteria. While most bleaches are oxidizing agents, sodium dithionite is a powerful reducing agent that can be used as a bleach. Domestic and laundry bleaches contain 3 to 5 percent available chlorine whereas antiseptic solutions may contain only about 1 percent chlorine. In food processing, sodium hypochlorite is used to sanitize food preparation equipment, in fruit and vegetable processing, mushroom production, hog, beef and poultry production, maple syrup production, and fish processing.
